UYR's Latest Rescues

November 19, 2018

Many of you know the story of sweet Jasper, others may not, but United Yorkie Rescue could sure use a Christmas Miracle to help with his horrendous medical fees as he fights for his life.

Jasper is a precious now 5 year old Forever Ours pup who was diagnosed with the worst case of heart worm disease anyone had ever seen at age 3! Through the help of vets at Texas A&M, a plan was devised to initiate a small dose of the kill. Jasper initially responded well however on day 3 he jumped off the couch, proceeded to throw up and collapsed. I revived him and rushed him to the ER where we were able to save this baby. That was 2 years ago and since then his heartworm protocol has been slowly managed to avoid further seizures or embolisms. Then early this morning I was awakened with the sounds of a dog getting sick and a horrible cry of pain and agony. Jasper, who lays next me, was in a contorted stiff position with eyes glazed and retching or seizing then he stopped breathing. I started rescue breathing and compression's, then took my finger a couple of times to swipe his mouth and throat to see if he had aspirated possibly...nothing. I ran to the back door since the cold front was blowing in and stood in the cold whispering to him as I tried soft compression's and his chest moved. We gathered him up and rushed to the ER as he wretched and defecated while never moving his head nor his eyes.

As of now, Jasper is in the oxygen chamber. His blood work is a mess. He was severely dehydrated and his pancreatic values are OFF THE CHARTS as well. His liver is also suffering. His poor little heart is trying to fight and we are already at the tune of $4000. He has responded to treatment and had a plasma transfusion but will need additional support as well after this specialty care. Please help us save this little love bug and use the link below to donate to his care. Help us give Jasper his Christmas Miracle with the start of a thankful Thanksgiving. He is a fighter deserving of a chance to live. I will keep all of you updated and God Bless you ALL!!

Update Nov 20 Sweet Jasper has responded to the plasma transfusion. We are seeing his kidney and pancreatic values change. His liver values are still off. The HGE which is hemorrhagic gastroenteritis is severe and very painful. His stools are just watery blood from the inflammation. They did see during his ultrasound that feces is forming. We may also need to seek a neuro as well to get an answer for this.

This is Thanksgiving. This baby is only 5 yrs old and has lived these past few years knowing nothing but love although he cannot play because his heart wouldn't allow it. Please help us help him by donating to his care.

FROM THE BOARD May 2018

After more than a dozen years of exceptional service as Treasurer for United Yorkie Rescue, Carl Sullenberger is retiring from this position. Carl will remain a member of UYR and assist us with website management and the occasional question as we bring our new Treasurer, Judi Laverty onboard. We want to thank Carl for his dedication to the role which is usually a 7 day a week, 365 day a year job. We think Carl deserves a much-needed vacation however UYR was not his only job. Carl also works for his local newspaper as a school sports photographer/reporter and is involved with other local civic organizations. We will miss Carl and his meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. I hope this “retirement” gives him a little more time to relax, but knowing Carl, he will definitely be keeping busy. Thank you Carl for all you have done to make UYR such a success.

United Yorkie Rescue is pleased to share that a wonderful organization, Wrapped in Love (WIL), will be featuring us on the WIL Facebook page and website on Sunday, May 21, 2017 and will be providing UYR with adoption blankets, belly bands, diapers, bandanas, and tug toys. Wrapped in Love is a group of artisans who recognize that everyone can do something in the rescue world and this is "their something". Each item is carefully handcrafted with Love and sent directly from the WIL members' homes to the featured rescue(s). If you would like to learn more and join this amazing and supportive group, visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/artisanswithamission and the website, where all the pledging is done, at www.wil4u.com. In under 3 years Wrapped in Love has pledged over 11,000 blankets plus thousands of other items. This mission will continue until all rescue and shelter dogs find loving forever homes! UYR is proud to have been selected as a recipient of their support.

Can you imagine forcing your pet dog to live his or her entire life in a small wire cage with no human companionship, toys, or comfort, and little hope of ever becoming part of a family? That is what life is like for a puppy mill breeding dog. Help us stop this cycle of cruelty that contributes to pet overpopulation and the suffering of countless dogs by adopting your next pet. There are many places you can adopt your next pet, such as an animal shelter, humane society, or a rescue organization. Click on our Looking for Love link and check out all the beautiful Yorkies in our foster program. If you don't see what you are looking for, we recommend visiting www.petfinder.com. You might be surprised to see all the pets available in your area. Remember: Adopt, Don't Shop!
